TOP FIVE TIPS FOR APPLYING MAKE-UP TO DRY SKIN

How to get that flawless look for your dry, sensitive skin.

Make up

1. CLEANSE

Cleansing your skin will help wash off any allergens it might have picked up so they don’t become trapped under your make-up.

Your skin needs a cleanser that won’t deprive it of its natural moisture. Use a gentle cream or micellar cleanser that doesn’t contain harsh ingredients such as perfumes, preservatives or colourants. Apply the product gently, massaging it into the skin and paying particular attention to any red or dry skin patches. Softly remove cleanser using cotton wool pads or use a small amount of warm water.

2. MOISTURISE

Use a hypoallergenic face cream after you cleanse to nourish and soothe. If your skin is very dry, a moisturising primer can help to give it a smooth base for your make-up. Give your moisturiser and primer a few minutes to absorb into the skin, to help apply your make-up more evenly.

3. CHOOSE THE RIGHT FOUNDATION

Dry, sensitive skin is best suited to creamy, hydrating foundations. Apply a small amount bit by bit, blending into your skin until you achieve the coverage you’d like. Use a hypoallergenic concealer on red patches that may need more coverage.

4. TRY TO AVOID POWDER

Powders are best avoided because they absorb moisture and natural oils from the skin’s surface and can make dry, sensitive skin even dryer. To help keep your make-up in place and make it last longer, use a hydrating, fixing spray. If you feel your skin drying out during the day, another spritz of this skin refresher will help hydrate your skin and freshen your make-up.

5. APPLY BLUSHER OR BRONZER

Use a cream or lightweight mousse blusher on the apples of your cheeks. Cream blushers may help hydrate and soothe dry, sensitive skin far better than powder blushers. If your skin is particularly red, you may find that blusher tends to enhance red patches. Instead, apply bronzer to areas where the sun would usually catch the skin, such as the top of the cheekbones and bridge of the nose.
