Find out which foods are the best for helping to keep your skin healthy.

1. FRUIT

Berries (including strawberries, blackberries and blueberries) kiwi fruit, and tomatoes – contain plenty of antioxidants that can help protect your skin cells from damage caused by free radicals. Some fruits such as oranges, apples and papaya are rich in vitamin C, which can help to reduce the appearance of blemishes and promote radiant skin.

2. VEGETABLES

Two potent antioxidants – betacarotene and lutein - that are vital for skin cell development and healthy skin tone can be found in vegetables such as carrots, spinach and kale. Sweet potatoes are a rich source of vitamin C, which is thought to help strengthen your skin’s blood vessels.

3. OILY FISH

Oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, are high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which can act as a natural moisturiser for your skin, helping to keep it supple and strong.

4. NUTS

Vitamin E, which helps protect skin and promotes healthy skin cell growth, can be found in almonds, hazelnuts and pine nuts. Brazil nuts are rich in an antioxidant called selenium, which is vital for the general health of skin cells, while walnuts are high in omega-3 fatty acids and can help keep your skin’s outer layers strong.

5. PROTEIN

Fish, lean red meat and poultry are rich sources of zinc, a mineral that helps your skin’s oil-producing glands function effectively. Eggs are also high in protein and the natural compound sulfur, which is believed to help keep your skin’s connective tissues strong.
