Dry skin is a common skin problem – people of all ages get it for a variety of reasons. It can affect the skin on any part of your body – you might have dry face or a dry body, or both. Skin dryness can feel physically dry to touch although it may not always be obvious if you have it.
WHY SKIN BECOMES DRY
The reason skin can become dry is it lacks moisture in its outer layer, which can cause cracks in the surface of your skin. Medical names for dry skin include xerosis, xeroderma or asteatosis (which is a shortage of oily secretions from glands in your skin). Using a moisturiser often helps repair the moisture barrier of dry skin.
