1. IT COULD BE HEREDITARY
Skin sensitivity can be associated with underlying skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea or acne, which can be hereditary.
2. STRESS CAN INCREASE SENSITIVITY
Stress can create a hormone imbalance, which can reduce the effectiveness of your skin’s moisture barrier function, and cause your sensitive skin to become dry and more prone to reactions. Try to build relaxation time into your schedule, to help counteract the effects of stress.
3. YOU CAN EXPERIENCE IT AT ANY AGE
Although the effectiveness of the skin’s protective barrier decreases naturally with age, it can become vulnerable, making it more likely to become sensitive and react, at any age.
4. YOU CAN EXFOLIATE
It’s fine to exfoliate sensitive skin, as long as your skin feels comfortable during and after. Use a gentle exfoliator and apply to clean skin – but no more than twice a week. Don’t forget to moisturise afterwards.
5. TAP WATER CAN INCREASE SENSITIVITY
Do you live in a hard or soft water area? Hard water contains higher levels of certain minerals, which can leave dry and sensitive skin feeling more irritated. Try a water softener if you live in a hard water area
